5 things omega -3 can do for you

Omega 3 fatty acids have been linked to a number of health benefits.  These acids are essential fatty acids, meaning the body needs them but can't make them, so you need to get them in food or supplementation. Omega -3 play a crucial role in brain and behavioral function.  Most clinical evidence shows omega-3 to be effective in heart and circulatory health of the body.

Omega -3 occur naturally in food such as tuna,salmon sardines,canola oil, soybeans and walnuts. most research shows omega-3 in fish as having the most beneficial effects.  These include:

1) Lower cholesterol -omega-3 increase the HDL (good cholesterol) in the body,lowering triglycerides and total cholesterol

2)Heart disease-omega -3 lowers the risk of stroke, heart attack and also prevents hardening of the arteries.

3)Depression-studies have shown that omega-3;s help with depression symptoms and may also help with post partum depression.

4) Mental faculties-studies have linked low omega-3 with increase risk of Alzheimers disease and dementia. A recent study showed that monkeys fed a diet rich in omega-3 had more neural networks and connections than those that did not have them in their diet.

5)Protection against inflammatory disease such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis-Omega-3  reduce inflammation in the body.  this is also beneficial against IBD,and certain cancers.
