Most people at some time in their lives have suffered from pain between the shoulder blades. This can run from mildly annoying to excruciating pain depending on the causes. Although usually of origin in the muscles or spine ,shoulder pain can also be a symptom of a more serious disease. It is important to have the correct diagnosis before getting treated for any type of shoulder blade pain. As Lupo Saladino Chiropractic in Middle Island, the doctors take a holistic approach to their patients. Therefore only when other serious conditions have been ruled out, will they start treatment at their clinic..
The shoulder blades are 2 bones in the upper back that connect to the collar bone and the humerus or upper arm. It is responsible for allowing movement of the arms through a wide range, so it is constantly being used and is subject to much stress. Inability to lift your arm over your head can be due to muscular tightness in the scapula region. Sometimes pain between the shoulders can cause radiating arm pain in the affected area. The rhomboid muscle attaches from the edge of the scapula to the upper back and are frequently the source of trigger points which restrict their movement leading to pain when the arm is lifted. Trigger point therapy ,ultrasound and spinal manipulation can free up these tender areas.
Pain in this area of the body is frequently caused by slouching, sitting at a desk for long hours, doing computer work or overexerting the arms as in hammering, swinging an axe or other manual work with the arms.
A thorough history will be taken when you go to the Lupo Saladino Chiropractic office. This will rule out more serious causes of this pain such as gall bladder , pancreas, and heart disease, liver problems or cancer. Once these have been ruled out a treatment plan consisitng of pain relief, elimination of trigger factors and exercise will be prescribed to get you on the way to longer lasting pain relief.
